Material Things Women Want: How to Get Her the Perfect Gift Part 1…..I’m going to be completely honest with you. Women love gifts. We fantasize about what you will get us for Christmas, and wonder if you’re going to get us something thoughtful for our 6-month anniversary. I’m not saying money can buy you love, or that you should shower your woman with gifts. Trust me when I say this though, diamonds are a girl’s best friend. So, what’s appropriate to get girls and what’s not appropriate? I’m so glad you asked!
Gift exchanging is a major step in the relationship. You need to make sure that if you’re spending a certain amount of money on this girl then she better be worth it. Unless you’re a multimillionaire willing to shower your young mistress in jewels I’m assuming you’re just wondering what to get her for certain occasions. Gift giving is a form of a grand gesture. Holding the door and paying for dinner are small chivalrous tasks, but by buying her a gift you’re showing her you really have feelings for her.
It’s important to be aware of timing. Buying her something small and under $5 when you first start dating is totally fine. Don’t make it a consistent habit though. Either she’ll always expect that aspect of the relationship to be there, or she’ll think it’s too soon for you to be buying her gifts all the time. You don’t want to come off as creepy. You’re trying to go with a considerate or “cute” approach. You’re already wining and dinning her. You don’t need to shower her with gifts. If she DOES think you should be showering her with gifts I suggest you run. Now, I ain’t sayin’ she’s a gold digger, but she ain’t messin’ with no br- well you get the idea.
Let’s tackle something simple like Christmas (or Hanukkah for my Jewish friends). I’m going to make it really simple for you. Jewelry. Jewelry, jewelry, jewelry, jewelry. It’s not brain surgery guys. I’m not saying you have to buy her a $1,000 diamond covered tennis bracelet. The Internet is a wonderful resource when it comes to bargain jewelry hunting. If it’s your first holiday together get her something that reflects her personality. Women want men to give them gifts, but gifts with a personal touch are extra special. You can search Etsy for tons of categories like, geeky, hello kitty, vintage, or anything else that reminds you of her. Getting her a cute little costume necklace that fits her personality isn’t just a nice piece of jewelry—it’s a way to show her you get her. I suggest asking one of her friends for help. They’ll be able to differentiate between a good find and a piece of junk. If you do want to get her diamonds make it reasonable. Have an equation in your head that reads (Length of Time Together + Holiday) / Budget = Diamond size/quantity.
Hopefully this introductory post cleared up some questions you have on what to get your girl. In the next few articles I’m going to break down the importance of birthdays, anniversaries, and that terrible special day… Valentines Day. Then I’ll clue you in on what to NEVER buy a woman.
