01 Aug Fantastic Girlfriend Getaways
Girlfriend .How many times do we say to ourselves “I can really use a break?” Whether it be from the craziness of work outside of the home or kids or just because….we all need a change of scenery. As the old adage goes, “Calgon, take me away!” Taking a break not only lends a change of environment but allows us to experience someplace and some things that we have never done before. Whether it’s trying new restaurants, new sports or new beaches, a getaway rejuvenates and refreshes our mind, body and soul to a place where we can have a clean perspective going forward. Girlfriend getaways are always memorable experiences.
Whether you are in a relationship or not, going away with our girlfriends gives us the “girl time” that we so desperately need. Having a significant other, as important as it is for some, does not mean that you can’t have time with your girlfriends. Think of it as an opportunity to spend time with ones that maybe you do not see very often or that do in fact live close to you geographically but going away never works out due to timing. If you have a significant other, they can take the same time period and spend it with their friends. Guys love having “guy time” as well. Whether they go hunting, fishing or golfing; the benefits that come from this time away is immeasurable. For us girls, this time can be used to travel to a location domestically or for a more exotic feel, a place internationally that perhaps you have heard about or always wanted to visit. The choices are endless depending upon your budget, amenities, location and specific type of accommodations.
I have listed many different type of vacation spots, domestic and internationally, that may interest you to visit along with the vast array of amenities that would appeal to everyone. If nothing else, maybe just to look up and research will give you some idea so you can narrow down your choices. If unable to visit now, putting these places on a bucket list for the future would give you something to work towards. Who doesn’t want goals – no matter what category they fall into.
Please keep in mind that prices change according to the time of year you book. Everyone has priorities when booking a vacation, so sit down and write down with your girlfriends what each individual is looking for and how important each item is. This is a group project where all of you take part in the decisions and plans and therefore no one should feel left out.

Keep in mind that these destinations are not only girlfriend friendly but they are fabulous places to go away on your own. I personally like to go away with my girlfriends however there are times where I like to just have “me time” with only me. I love my 2 kids to pieces and although one is 17 and one is 24, I love to spend time by myself. I can go to sleep when I want, eat when I want, pick and choose what activities I would like to do and when and just unplug from the everyday. For me, personally I love a location that is on the beach and that has a terrace or balcony where I can sit out at night listening to the waves and reading.
A girlfriend getaway can be any time of the year depending what works best for everyone’s schedule. Keep in mind that prices are contingent upon the season and going away a few weeks later can make all the difference in saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Shop wisely and be particular when you make your decision. The last thing you want to do is make a decision with your friends, get to the location and it is not what you want. If the location is close enough where you can drive to it and see the place in person and perhaps a room or two prior to booking, it could save a great deal of aggravation and money in the long run. Personally, I have done that very thing. I was interested in getting away for a weekend to a hotel approximately 1 1/2 hours from my home. I decided to take a ride there to get a glimpse of the place especially since I knew no one who had stayed there. I am so glad I did! The location was by the water, which was good, but it was located at the bottom of a hill in a small town that had a very small amount of parking. The dining room was very small and although the guest rooms had balconies it was very noisy. This environment was the antithesis of what I was looking for. Additionally, if I chose not to eat in the dining room, I would have needed to get in the car and drive at least 20 minutes to find an eating establishment. Sometimes, a small investment of time pays out exponentially in the long run.
My hope is that you find the appropriate location and accommodations that brings you the peace, fun and “girl time” that you are in search of. All of us lead very busy lives and making the decision to take time out and spend it with your girlfriends to laugh, tell stories and just to “be” is so important. Perhaps use this time to celebrate all the positive events that have taken place over the last few months (i.e. a birthday, the birth of a child – if appropriate, an engagement, a promotion, a new house, recovering from an illness or surgery, etc.). Maybe make it a yearly trip; not just a one time event. To have friends who can relate to you, comfort you, cry with you and give you the support and love you need is a gift. Don’t take it for granted. Embrace it and cherish it because these are relationships that have been built over time and the last thing you want is for them to be lost. Make the time to spend with your girlfriends; away from the craziness of the everyday. You won’t be sorry!
